Under the influence of a western disturbance and an induced cyclonic circulation over west Rajasthan and neighbouring areas, the Capital received rain on Monday evening. The day remained overcast with the maximum temperature falling to 24.2 degrees Celsius from the 27.2 degrees Celsius recorded on Sunday.
The minimum settled at at 8.2 degrees Celsius which is one degree below normal for the season. The overcast conditions will persist till December 12, said the weatherman, adding that it there is likelihood of “very light” rain. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 23 and 10 degrees Celsius respectively.
According to the information provided by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the average Air Quality Index (AQI) scores released at 4 p.m. on Monday, the air quality in New Delhi was 361 which was in the “very poor” category. Gurugram, at 319, was also in the same category while Ghaziabad and Noida were in the “severe” category with AQI of 463 and 408 respectively. The evening rain is likely to improve these figures, said sources at the IMD as the wind will bring temporary relief.

The IMD has also issued a fog warning with moderate to dense fog forecast for December 13 and December 14. The department has also forecast cold days ahead with a fall in maximum and minimum temperatures.
