CAIT writes to Union Minister, suggests forming ‘Greater Delhi’

‘Make Noida, Faridabad, Gurugram a part of the Capital’

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Sunday said that it had written to Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri suggesting that the Building Department should be taken away from the Municipal Corporations of Delhi and transferred to Delhi Development Authority.

Also, it demanded that nearby towns of Delhi including Noida, Faridabad, Gurugram, Bahadurgarh should be made part of Delhi and be renamed Greater Delhi. This should be done to de-congest Delhi, said CAIT.

‘Overpopulated’

CAIT secretary-general Praveen Khandelwal said Delhi has become overpopulated and cannot bear more infrastructure load in proportion of increasing population every year.

“The concept of Delhi-NCR has completely failed. From 1985, when Delhi-NCR was constituted, nothing concrete has been done. Neither the government offices were transferred nor the population from Delhi,” he said.

If adjoining cities are made part of Delhi, these towns will get more value and it will be easy for the people to transfer from Delhi to these towns and yet remain part of the Capital, he added.

CAIT suggested that “Greater Delhi” should be developed and adjoining towns particularly Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Bahadurgarh should be made part of the Delhi administration.

Share in revenue

It also called for adequate representation from these areas in the political spectrum. Mr. Khandelwal suggested that in lieu of taking over these towns from UP and Haryana, they should be given a reasonable share in revenue accrued from these towns.

Mr. Khandelwal further said Building Department under the municipal corporations have failed to check unauthorised constructions.
