The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Friday wrote to Minister of State (Independent Charge) Housing And Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, urging him to take steps to prevent the monitoring committee from passing “discretionary orders”.

‘Anarchic’

Calling the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring “anarchic”, the letter to Mr. Puri read, “It is most surprising that the monitoring committee is not following due process of law and acting purely on its whims and wishes. The commercial establishments so far sealed in Delhi have not been given any prior notice nor any opportunity to defend their case which is a gross injustice and flouting the principle of natural justice.”

Demanding action against the committee, the letter further read, “If need be, the government should not hesitate to approach the Supreme Court in the larger interest of Delhi. It is time to take action since the monitoring committee has thrown all democratic norms and has adopted a dictatorial approach.”
