CAG should probe discoms' account: BJP

October 29, 2011 10:53 am | Updated 10:53 am IST - NEW DELHI

The Delhi BJP on Friday accused the Delhi Government of being “anti-people” and criticised Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's recent remarks about a possible hike in power tariffs.

In a statement, State president Vijender Gupta said at a time when the rate of inflation was continuously rising, the statement of the Chief Minister indicating a further hike in the power tariff was unwelcome.

“If the Chief Minister thinks in the interest of the people then she should immediately accept the demand for a CAG enquiry into the accounts of all the three private power supply companies. The power companies are earning profit of thousands of crores. In spite of this, the Government allowed a 22 per cent hike in power tariffs. By doing so the Government is implementing the secret agenda of the power companies,” he said.

Mr. Gupta went on to add that if the private companies continued to state that they were incurring losses then they should be relieved from the job. “Fresh tenders should be invited for awarding the work of power distribution to new competent companies,” he said.

Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra, too criticised the statement of the Chief Minister.

Prof. Malhotra also demanded a CAG probe of the private companies from the date of privatisation of the electricity sector in the city.
