The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has managed to retrieve organs of a 42-year-old brain dead man.
Giving details about the case, AIIMS director M. C. Misra said: “We received a call from a private hospital in Delhi informing us about this patient and we brought him here on 24. He was declared brain dead the next day and his kidneys, liver, heart and corneas were harvested.”
“We have already used the kidneys, liver and heart, while the corneas have been sent to the bank,” said a senior health official at AIIMS.

The wife, brother and mother of the deceased gave consent to retrieve his organs.
“The deceased belonged to a Punjabi family in South Delhi and had two children. He complained of severe headache one morning earlier this month, after which the family rushed him to Rockland Hospital in Qutab institutional area. The patient was diagnosed with an aneurysm and declared brain steam dead the same day,” said AIIMS Transplant Coordinator Rajeev Maikhuri.
“A team of 100 medical and nursing personnel, and technicians were involved in the whole process starting from 10 a.m. on June 24 till 10 a.m. the next day,” he added.

The deceased is the ninth cadaver donor at AIIMS.
