A 34-year-old businessman was allegedly shot dead by an unidentified scooterist in Geeta Colony on Monday night, the police said on Tuesday.

Sushil’s car and a scooter brushed against each other under Geeta Colony flyover at 11.15 p.m. Sushil, who was driving, got into an argument with the scooterist over this, the police said.

He had gone to attend a marriage function in Loni along with his nephew Ashwani and his friend Kartik, the police said.

The trio was returning to Krishna Nagar in his car when Sushil’s neighbour Renu called and asked him to pick her up from Kamla Market.

Sushil picked up Renu and her two friends. After dining at a restaurant in Krishna Nagar, they started driving towards Usmanpur, the police said.

“The car was about to turn right on Pushta Road towards Geeta Colony near the CNG filling station when a scooty coming from the opposite direction nearly collided with it. Following this, Sushil and the scooterist got into a verbal spat. Sushil then stepped out of the car. As soon as he got out, the scooterist shot him in the thigh,” said DCP (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav.

She said an injured Sushil got inside the car and started driving towards a hospital but collapsed due to excessive bleeding and hit a divider. Ashwani took him to a hospital in an autorickshaw, while Kartik and the others followed them in the car, the police said.

“Sushil was declared brought dead at Lok Nayak Hospital. The police control room received a call regarding the incident at 11.39 p.m. A team rushed to the hospital. Sushil’s family members were also informed about the incident,” added Ms. Yadav. The other car occupants have been questioned, the police said.

No CCTV footage

“We are preparing a sketch of the suspect for identification as there is no CCTV footage of the incident. A first information report has been registered under sections of murder and Arms Act at Geeta Colony police station. Teams have been formed arrest the accused,” Ms. Yadav said. Sushil is survived by his wife and a 10-year-old daughter.
