Businessman rescued hours after abduction

Incident took place in Manesar

The Gurugram Police claimed to have rescued a businessman and his friend within hours after they were allegedly kidnapped by unidentified men at gunpoint in Manesar here in the early hours of Sunday. The businessman’s luxury car was also recovered.

According to the police, Ishan Sharma, a resident to IMT Manesar, was on the way to Sector 3 petrol pump along with three friends around 2 a.m. in his car when over half-a-dozen unidentified men waylaid them in a Sports Utility Vehicle. The accused, robbed Mr. Sharma and his friends of their wallet and mobile phones.

The robbers bundled Mr. Sharma and his friend Michael into the SUV. The other friends were abandoned by the roadside. One of the three robbers drove away with Mr. Sharma’s car. The kidnappers made ransom calls to Mr. Sharma’s parents, seeking ₹5 crore. Mr. Sharma is the son of a Revenue Department official. His parents reported the matter to the police.

Car abandoned

Station House Officer, IMT Manesar, Inspector Narender Kumar said the police received the information around 4 a.m. and a wireless message was immediately sent to all nearby police stations. “We continued to chase the kidnappers based on the leads available. Eventually, the kidnappers dumped the businessman and his friend near Nayagaon at Jhajjar bypass. Their car was later found abandoned ,” said Mr. Kumar.

The police said efforts are on to identify the accused and arrest them. A case has been registered at IMT Manesar police station under different sections of the Indian Penal Code.
