A 50-year-old Delhi-based businessman was held after a cabin crew member with a Russian airline alleged that he touched her inappropriately and abused her when she objected to him drinking on-board a Moscow-Delhi flight on Wednesday, the police said.
They said they received a call from the airline around 3 a.m. The airline alleged that a passenger had sexually harassed one of their cabin crew members on-board flight SU-232. “The complainant alleged that passenger Ram Kishan, a textile businessman who lives in Paschim Vihar here, was consuming alcohol inside the plane. When one of the cabin crew members objected, he started shouting at her. When she returned to the kitchen, he followed her and tried to touch her. When other staff members intervened, he touched her inappropriately,” said a senior police officer.
The airline crew called the police and also asked the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for assistance. As soon as the plane landed, the CISF men took Mr. Kishan in custody and handed him over to the Delhi Police.

“A case under IPC Sections 354 [for molestation] and 509 [word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman] has been registered at IGI police station. The accused is a frequent flyer. We have not found a record of his involvement in any crime in the past,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI) Sanjay Bhatia.
“No arrest has been made so far and the matter is being probed. We will summon the accused to join the investigation,” Mr. Bhatia added.
