BSP MLA joins investigation of wife’s murder

Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Haji Aleem, whose second wife was found murdered at her house in New Jaffrabad here on Wednesday, joined the investigation on Friday. Although the police suspect involvement of an insider, they are yet to achieve a breakthrough in the case.

The MLA from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh reached Delhi on Friday evening and produced himself before the police for questioning. “He has volunteered to assist us in the probe,” said a senior police officer. The police would try to ascertain from him whether Rs.20 lakh was stolen from his wife’s house, as alleged by her in-laws.

The police suspect that a dispute over the flat, which was owned by 40-year-old Rehana, could have led to her murder. She was shot twice in the chest and head, and stabbed about a dozen times. Police investigations have revealed that for the past five-six months, Rehana had been living with her husband and in-laws in Bulandshahr. However, she returned to her house here about six days before she was brutally murdered.
