Party optimistic of winning seat after BJP’s Udit Raj joins fold

With incumbent North West Delhi MP Udit Raj joining the Congress on Wednesday after being denied a ticket by the BJP, the Delhi Congress is optimistic about its chances of victory in the reserved constituency.

Mr. Raj said that he would campaign for the Congress in the constituency where the party has fielded Delhi Congress working president Rajesh Lilothia.

Welcoming the entry of Mr. Raj, Mr. Lilothia said that since a majority of people in his constituency are from the SC category, having a person like Mr. Raj campaigning for him would definitely benefit him.

‘BJP stands exposed’

“Mr. Raj has exposed the anti-Dalit politics of the BJP with his resignation and has shown the real face of the party and its policies against Dalits. This will definitely resonate amongst voters,” he said.

Mr. Lilothia added that Mr. Raj brings with him a set of followers, not only from the political sphere but from the work his NGO has been doing, that will help his campaign. Mr. Lilothia added that he was positive his campaign would run smoothly and yield a positive result.

Sources in the Delhi Congress said that the North West Delhi seat in which the BJP has fielded debutant politician Hans Raj Hans and AAP has fielded Gugan Singh is a seat with greater chances of winning.
