BJP set to corner AAP

June 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - NEW DELHI:

As the Budget session convenes on Tuesday, some fireworks can be expected as the Bharatiya Janata Party is planning to corner the Arvind Kejriwal government over a host of issues during the six-day session.

Inside the Vidhan Sabha, three BJP legislators are planning to “raise issues like power tariff hike, water scarcity, advertisements violating Supreme Court norms and claims of action against corruption made by the State government”. Outside, party workers will protest demanding that the AAP government table the fourth Delhi Finance Commission report.

The report, which has been pending since Sheila Dikshit was at the helm of affairs in Delhi, has recommended a nearly three-fold increase in the global share of revenues to the civic bodies.

“The party workers will continue protesting outside the Vidhan Sabha till the State government tables and implements the report,” said Delhi BJP general secretary Ramesh Bidhuri.

Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijendra Gupta told journalists here that the BJP Legislature Party may be only three-member strong but it will make its presence felt.

“We will forcefully raise pertinent issues related to the common man and expose the AAP government that has failed to live up to the poll promises it made,” said Mr. Gupta.

During the previous Assembly, BJP legislator Jagdish Pradhan was marshalled out of the Assembly after he got into a heated exchange with Speaker Ram Niwas Goel.

The opposition legislators, Mr. Gupta said, will also bring up the private members’ Bills, including the demand for suspension of Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar till the time investigations in corruption charges levelled against him are completed; immediate appointment of a Lokayukta, enquiry of degrees of all 70 legislators and disqualification of Jitender Singh Tomar as MLA.
