BJP demands Bharti’s resignation

Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Harsh Vardhan along with other BJP legislators on Monday staged a sit-in dharna outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s office to demand that Law Minister Somnath Bharti be sacked for his alleged involvement in leading a “vigilante group” on a midnight raid in Khirki Extension earlier this month.

The delegation also submitted an “open letter” to Mr. Kejriwal demanding that Mr. Bharti be sacked. The main Opposition party also questioned the Aam Aadmi Party Government on the 18 issues it highlighted while forming the government. “The aam aadmi of Delhi demands a detailed explanation as to how many of these issues have been addressed or fulfilled till date. Have any of the decisions of your government on water and electricity been implemented…?” stated the letter.

Referring to the dharna organised by Mr. Kejriwal last week outside Rail Bhawan, the BJP termed it a “breach of Section 144” and asked if it wasn’t an “interruption and breach of the existing laws in India”. The letter also highlighted issues such as contractual work, the government’s promise to open 500 new schools and setting up of night shelters.

“We have written an open letter to Mr. Kejriwal demanding that the Law Minister be sacked. We will fight till our demands are met. We will even take it up with the President,” said Dr. Vardhan, after the dharna that lasted two hours.
