Accusing him of being the “greatest enemy” of his own demand for statehood for the Capital, Delhi BJP on Tuesday said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was “trying to mislead the people” on the issue of full statehood.
Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari said Mr. Kejriwal was seeking help from “such falsehood” because he could not complete any work for the people of Delhi during the last four years.
“Kejriwal is himself the greatest enemy of Delhi’s demand for full statehood...he has strongly damaged this cause...by trying to stop the January 26 [Republic Day] parade and attacking the constitutional institutions again and again. He can stoop to any low for the sake of power,” Mr. Tiwari argued.

Mr. Tiwari alleged that the people of Delhi gave Mr. Kejriwal a massive mandate but “he has betrayed the people” by not fulfilling his promises for providing free Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras, potable water, pollution control, new buses and marshals in buses among others.
Tall claims
“He made tall claims of improvement in education and for showing better results for the last three academic sessions of 2016, 2017 and 2018. Delhi government failed 5,16,951 students of Class IX and Class XI. Kejriwal did not open a single new college during the last four years whereas he had made promises of opening 20 new colleges,” Mr. Tiwari alleged.

The North-East Delhi MP also accused Mr. Kejriwal's promise of providing better health services.
“Kejriwal deliberately did not implement Central government’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana under which people of Delhi could have availed free treatment of ₹5 lakh. Kejriwal also did not implement 10% reservation for economically weaker section in Delhi,” he alleged.
Symbolic bonfire
Meanwhile, Union Minister Vijay Goel slammed the CM over the issue of full statehood, saying there was “no possibility of statehood owing to antics and drama of Mr. Kejriwal”.
Mr. Goel, a former Delhi BJP president, said, “I will hold Holika Dahan [ritual bonfire before Holi] at Jantar Mantar, and torch a tower made of newspaper advertisements of the Kejriwal government. Placards listing unfulfilled promises of Arvind Kejriwal will also be torched.”
The Opposition also attacked Mr. Kejriwal and Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chairperson Swati Maliwal for not taking action against party MLAs accused of corruption or ill treatment of women.
“Naresh Balyan, Satyendar Jain, Kailash Gahlot...Aam Aadmi Party made security for women as its main issue in order to get the support of women but the party MLAs and Ministers exploited women...Ms. Maliwal neither gave any reaction nor took any action. In such a situation what can the women of Delhi expect?” Mr. Tiwari argued.
