CM compares work done by AAP govt. to other regimes

On the move: Traffic movement begins on the newly inaugurated Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Setu Barapullah Phase-II in the Capital on Saturday.

Connecting Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to INA Market, the phase-II of the elevated road over the Barapullah drain was inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday.

Completed three years after its initial deadline of 2015, the 2-km-long extension to the elevated road cost the Delhi government’s Public Works Department ₹530 crore to make, the PWD said in a statement.

The extended road, which has been officially renamed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Setu by the Aam Aadmi Party government, would reduce the time taken to travel from Sarai Kale Khan till AIIMS by 20 minutes, since commuters would not have to use the Ring Road.

Phase-I of the Barapullah elevated corridor, as it was known then, was opened in time for the Commonwealth Games in 2010 and connected Sarai Kale Khan till Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

After opening the road, Mr. Kejriwal addressed a gathering at the nearby Pillanji village.

He compared the work done by the AAP government since it came to power in 2015 to that of BJP and Congress governments in others States and Delhi.

“You can look at their work over the years and our work in three years,” he said, adding that the government had improved schools and come up with new schemes like doorstep delivery of services, which he said would start in two months.

Also at the event, PWD Minister Satyendar Jain said the phase-II of the elevated road would not only reduce the travel time during regular hours, but would be of great help during traffic jams on the Ring Road.

He said while it could take up to an hour to travel the distance on the Ring Road, it would take only 10 minutes on the elevated road.
