: A rickshaw-puller inaugurated the Delhi Transport Corporation’s (DTC) new bus terminal in North East Delhi on Sunday which, according to government estimates, is expected to provide relief to as many as five lakh local residents.

Mohammad Israel Khan inaugurated the Babarpur bus terminal in the presence of Transport Minister Gopal Rai, the MLA of the Assembly segment, and other senior DTC officials.

“The Delhi Government as well as the DTC is committed to the provision of reliable and efficient bus service to its commuters. More buses are being added to the DTC fleet and, soon, there will be no scarcity of buses for Delhiites,” Mr. Rai said.

Approximately five lakh residents of the area, Mr. Rai said, would be benefited through the new terminal, which would also allow them to take buses for different venues from a single point.

The bus terminal is equipped with public utilities in addition to bus-queue shelters, with officials having been instructed to add more facilities for commuters in the coming days.

Among the oldest bus terminals in the Capital, several significant bus routes were being operated from here, which include the ones running on route no. 254 between Babarpur and Kamruddin Nagar, no. 274 between Babarpur and Abul Fazal Enclave in Okhla, no. 213A between Babarpur and the New Delhi Railway Station and no. 218 between Babarpur and Shadipur Depot.

“A pass section is also available at this terminal which will be the 38{+t}{+h}pass section of the DTC and would spell major relief for residents who currently have to travel to other locations to get their passes made or renewed,” Mr. Rai added.
