Assistant SI joined two months ago

Assistant Sub-Inspector Vijay Yadav (45) lost his life on Sunday night while on duty to protect Bhupinder alias Monu Dariyapur (33), who was shot by unknown assailants in outer Delhi’s Mianwali Nagar.

Yadav, a resident of Kailash Puri in Palam Colony and native of Haryana’s Rewari, was posted as Monu’s Personal Security Officer (PSO) for the last two months and was present in the car when Monu was shot over 20 times by men who had come on bikes and a car. During the shoot-out, Yadav was also shot over 10 times and died on the spot.

‘Requested transfer’

His family said they had requested him to ask for a transfer because they were scared for his life but he never listened. “My mother used to constantly ask him to quit this job and ask to be posted elsewhere. But he always said that if he wouldn’t do his job, someone else will. It’s a government job and he can’t make decisions,” Chandresh Yadav, 18-year-old son of Mr. Yadav, told The Hindu as he waited outside the mortuary at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.

Mr. Yadav’s family also alleged that he wasn’t given a bullet-proof jacket in case of an emergency. DCP (Outer) Mahendra Nath Tiwari said, “The threat wasn’t so high. It was an old matter.” Mr Yadav is survived by his wife and two sons, Chandresh and Ravi.
