As air quality dipped, so did number of challans

As the air quality started to take a dive from September, so did the number of vehicles challaned for not having Pollution Under Control certificate or for carrying uncovered construction material, according to data by the Traffic Police.

The number of vehicles challaned for not having a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate in August was 2,401, which came down to 2,267 in September and further dipped to 1984 in October.

The data showed that action taken against vehicles carrying uncovered building material and garbage decreased from 33 in August to 12 in September and just one in October.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Police issued an advisory for motorists given the dense fog that has enveloped the city the past few days. Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Garima Batnagar, said that motorists should avoid speeding and using their mobile phones, and use high-beam headlights.

“If the fog is too dense, pull completely off the road and position your vehicle in a safe parking area. Turn on your hazard lights, in addition to keeping on your headlights,” read the advisory.
