In a fresh charge against R. K. Pachauri, director general of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), a former colleague has alleged that he sexually harassed her when she worked with him ten years ago.
The allegations are contained in a letter written by the woman. “A sexual harasser ten years back and a sexual harasser now. He did it to me ten years back and he has done it to her now. I and many other female colleagues who have worked at the same work place as the woman have at some point in their life faced sexual harassment at the hands of this man,” the letter read.
Though the woman has not approached the Delhi Police with a complaint so far, they are now planning to meet her to find out if she wants to register a case.
In the letter, the woman said that Mr. Pachauri used to harass many other young colleagues in his office.
The letter was read out to the media at a press conference organised by the counsel of the 29-year-old woman TERI employee, who registered a case against him earlier this week.
A case under sections of sexual harassment and stalking has been registered against Mr. Pachauri at the Lodhi Colony police station.
Meanwhile, Mr. Pachauri has cancelled his visit to Nairobi. “The Chairman of the IPCC, R.K. Pachauri, has informed the IPCC that he will be unable to chair the plenary session of the IPCC in Nairobi next week because of issues demanding his attention in India,” an official statement said.
Mr. Pachauri was to fly out on Monday to speak at the IPCC event in Nairobi.
No reaction was, however, forthcoming from his office in connection with the fresh set of allegations.
