Allocation up 23% for public transport

Emphasising on promotion of public transport, the Kejriwal government has increased budgetary allocation by 23% (Rs.3,695 crore) to the transport sector as compared to the previous financial year.

Using the concept of smart city to highlight the importance of public transport, Manish Sisodia announced that the government will procure about 1,380 semi low-floor buses and 500 midi buses under the DTC, and around 1,000 more buses under the cluster scheme that will be deployed by the end of 2016.

“We propose to bring 10,000 buses of different specifications to meet differentiated needs of commuters from the private sector under the PPP scheme,” he said.

Mr. Sisodia also promised setting up of bus terminals at Dwarka, Rohini Sector-28 and Narela, besides announcing a subsidy of Rs.15,000 each for e-rickshaw drivers.
