Almost a day after a 21-year-old woman was gang-raped in Ballabgarh, the Faridabad police on Thursday arrested all the four accused in the case.

They are in their early 20s, the police said.

Faridabad Police Commissioner Amitabh Singh Dhillon said three of the accused were arrested on Thursday morning, based on clues provided by the victim and her male friend.

“We constituted six teams and also involved the digital forensic team for technical analysis. The evidence was collected. All the four accused were identified and three were arrested in the morning,” said Mr. Dhillon in a press conference around noon.

The fourth accused was nabbed in the evening.

The three accused arrested in the morning were found involved in petty crimes such as theft and snatching in Ballabgarh, the officer said, adding that they were all school dropouts.

The trio was in an inebriated state at the time of commission of crime but did not carry any weapons, Mr. Dhillon said.

The victim and her friend were on their way to a market on a motorcycle to buy medicines around 8 p.m. when their vehicle broke down at a secluded place near the Agra Canal.

While the duo was figuring out what to do, four men accosted and dragged them to a forest area nearby.

Two of the accused held the man hostage as the other two took turns to rape the woman behind the bushes.

Later, the duo watching the friend also assaulted the woman, the police said.

Identification parade

The three were produced before a local court during the day and sent to jail for Test Identification Parade. Mr. Dhillon said the victim was confident to identify them and it would strengthen the case against them.

He said the police would file the charge sheet in the case at the earliest and get the accused convicted in the fast track court.
