AAP wants BJP to clarify its stand on Central rule

February 26, 2014 09:47 am | Updated May 18, 2016 11:04 am IST - NEW DELHI:

“Do you want Assembly dissolved and fresh polls in Delhi?”

The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party for its “silence” over imposition of President’s Rule in Delhi and challenged the party to make its stand clear on the issue.

“It is surprising that the BJP is afraid to spell out its stand on whether the people of Delhi should be subjected to an indirect rule of the Congress-led UPA’s Central Government or should they be allowed to exercise their democratic and constitutional right of electing a new government,” the party said in a statement on Tuesday.

“Does the BJP want Delhi Assembly to be dissolved and elections to take place along with the Lok Sabha? When no party is in a position to form the government in Delhi, why is the BJP not demanding dissolution of the Assembly?” the AAP asked.

While resigning as the Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal had recommended dissolution of the Assembly and ‘immediate’ fresh elections in Delhi.

“If the BJP wants to stake claim for government formation, it should come forward and clearly say so. The AAP will take this issue to the people and expose the open alliance between the two parties, whose only aim is to destabilize the pro-people government and grab power through unholy means,” the AAP said.

The AAP also criticised the BJP for not ‘opposing’ discontinuation of relief in electricity tariffs for the people of Delhi when the interim budget was presented in Parliament.
