The Supreme Court describing Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung’s moves to explore the possibility of government formation in Delhi as positive has stalled the Aam Aadmi Party’s demand for immediate elections. The party, however, does not view the development as a setback.
Unlike Wednesday, when the court pulled up the Centre for the delay in breaking the deadlock, the court allowed the L-G more time for holding consultations. Reacting to this, former Delhi Minister and AAP leader Manish Sisodia said this was in fact a welcome move in ending the uncertainty once and for all.
The court also said that “there could be a minority government with outside support”. To this, Mr. Sisodia said there was no way that the BJP could manage outside support when both his party and the Congress were against it.

He also criticised the Congress for adopting different stances inside and outside the court. As for the party’s next move, Mr. Sisodia said they would now focus on the by-elections to the three Assembly constituencies and the process of short-listing candidates had begun.
