It is character assassination, counters Leader of Opposition

AAP leaders Dilip Pandey and Sanjay Singh during a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday.

The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday attacked Delhi government Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash for allegedly protecting corrupt officials, and accused the BJP-ruled Centre and the Lieutenant-Governor of supporting the CS.

At a press conference, AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said the Chief Secretary had not taken any action on the complaint by a government hospital doctor alleging corruption by officials.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Wednesday ordered Vigilance Department Minister-incharge Manish Sisodia to probe the complaint, which said the present and the previous four Chief Secretaries had taken bribes from corrupt officials to delay investigations.

Mr. Singh said by not taking any action against the corrupt officials, the Chief Secretary was siding with them.

AAP spokesperson Dilip Pandey added that the party supported the complainant’s demand for an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Reacting to Mr. Singh’s statement, the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said the AAP was carrying out a “character assassination” of the Chief Secretary.

Alleged CS assault

Referring to the alleged assault on the Chief Secretary by AAP MLAs in Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence in February, Mr. Gupta said that after “misbehaving” with the officer, the AAP was now levelling “baseless allegations” against the Chief Secretary.
