September 21, 2011 12:13 pm | Updated 12:13 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

A day after a young cable operator was killed in a road accident along with his fiancée and her mother in Jyoti Nagar here, the victim's younger sister, unable to bear the pain of his death, consumed a disinfectant and ended her life in Chand Bagh here on Tuesday.

Gokulpuri resident Tabassum, 23, went inside the toilet in the early hours of Tuesday and consumed the toilet cleaner. When she complained of nausea, the family took her to the nearby Mohan Nursing Home. She was later referred to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where she died in the morning.

Her brother Sikander, 25 met with an accident on Jyoti Nagar flyover in the early hours of Monday when he, along with his fiancée Nazreen and her mother Sahana Parveen Ansari, 40, was returning home on a motorcycle from Anand Vihar bus stand. While Nazreen and her mother died on the spot, Sikander succumbed to injuries a few hours later at Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital.

He was due to marry his neighbour Nazreen later this year.

“Sikander and Tabassum were closer to each other than the other siblings and she was very excited about his upcoming wedding. It was she who persuaded Sikander to dye his greying hair and bought most of his dresses for the wedding,” said a relative.

According to the neighbours, Tabassum cried inconsolably since she heard about her brother's death and fell unconscious when the body was brought home. “When the body was being taken for burial, she clung on to it and did not let the mourners take it away,” said neighbour Asfhak.
