Truck rams bus on Yamuna Expressway, two dead

Two persons were killed and nearly a dozen injured after a speeding truck rammed a stationary bus, ferrying a wedding procession, near Jewar toll plaza on Yamuna Expressway early on Sunday. The groom’s cousin and the bus driver died in the accident while the injured are recuperating in a private hospital in Greater Noida.

The police have sent the bodies for post=mortem and an FIR has been lodged against the unidentified truck driver. The FIR has been lodged on the basis of a complaint filed by one Anuj Tiwari, son of Ved Prakash, a resident of Laxmi Nagar in east Delhi.

Punctured tyre

The complaint reads that Anuj’s brother Ashish Tiwari’s marriage was schedulded on February 5. The bus ferrying the procession was headed to Muraina in Madhya Pradesh and left Delhi late on Saturday night. “The bus reached near Jewar toll plaza around 3:30 a.m where its tyre got punctured. The bus driver, identified as Jitender Kumar (41), got out of the bus and started changing the tyre while the groom’s cousin Gaurav Tiwari (24) was helping him. Meanwhile, a speeding truck on its way to Agra carriageway rammed the bus,” the complaint reads.

Toll operator helps

The bus passengers, along with Jitender, Gaurav, Dharmender and Prakash Chand suffered injuries. With the help of the toll operator company’s ambulance, the victims were rushed to Kailash hospital in Jewar area.

“The doctors at the hospital declared bus driver Jitender and the groom’s cousin Gaurav dead on arrival. The other injured persons are recuperating. The truck driver fled the scene. We have seized the truck and an FIR has been lodged,” said Ajay Kumar Sharma, Jewar police station in-charge.
