Teenager didn’t blame anyone in suicide note, police tell HC

Even as the mother of a teenage girl, who allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in her classroom at a government school here in 2016, looks for answers to the mystery shrouding the death of her daughter, the Delhi Police told the High Court that the suicide note did not blame anyone.

The police told a Bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi that the suicide note recovered from the bag of the 16-year-old and her handwriting sample have been sent to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Rohini, for comparison and the result is awaited.

Notice to principal

The court has now issued a notice to the principal of the Government Girls Senior Secondary School at Azadpur after Sangeeta, the girl’s mother, sought to implead him as party in the petition.

The court had earlier issued notice to the Commissioner of Police after Sangeeta approached the High Court seeking justice for her daughter following “police inaction”. She claimed that there was more to her daughter’s death than what met the eye. Sangeeta’s counsel Amit Kumar has sought a police report, inquest details, medico-legal case (MLC) report and CCTV footage.

Three suicide notes?

Sangeeta said in her petition that she had filed a police complaint on April 14 about a boy who harassed her daughter on the way to her school at Azadpur. She also complained about harassment and abuses over phone from an unknown number. She also questioned how a student could consume poison in a classroom and write three suicide notes addressed to three different persons.

Mr. Kumar said the police never bothered to look into the complaint regarding the boy who harassed the girl, which casts more doubt over the “suicide”. He raised doubts over the authenticity of the alleged suicide notes since the writing in the letters has not been forensically examined till date. He added that according to an enquiry by the family members, no FIR has been registered till date.

The police said they have suspended a head constable for not looking into the complaint of harassment.

Younger sister harassed

The Class XII student had left for school at 7 a.m. on September 16. Around 9 a.m., Sangeeta received a call from the school informing her that her daughter had consumed poison. Sangeeta’s son rushed to the school and took her to a hospital, but she could not be saved.

After her death, the boy allegedly started harassing her younger sister. So terrorised was the girl that she stopped going to school, said her uncle, adding that the police never looked into their harassment complaint.
