South Delhi colony wakes up to stink

Residents of a colony in South Delhi woke up to stinking streets on Tuesday morning, with a sewer line leaking and flooding the area.

The sewer rising main in Nehru Nagar developed a leak, leading to sewage flooding the area and making it difficult for residents to get around.

Sumit Sharma, a Nehru Nagar resident, said: “The situation was so bad in the morning that the roads had sewage accumulated. A park near my home was also flooded with sewage. We are used to water-logging in the rains that stays for a short while, but the sewage was much worse.”

Delhi Jal Board chairperson Kapil Mishra said a team had been deployed to repair the leak in the rising main, and the work would be completed by Wednesday evening.
