All Commonwealth Games related projects would be completed as per schedule and well before the commencement of the Games, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said on Monday during her visit to the Thyagraj Stadium to inspect the progress of the construction works there.
Ms. Dikshit, who was accompanied among others by Public Works Department Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, Commonwealth Games Principal Secretary P. K. Tripathi and PWD Principal Secretary K.K. Sharma, said the stadium costing Rs.297 crore will be used as venue of netball tournament apart from being used as a practice arena.
The Chief Minister, who is personally monitoring the progress of Games-related projects, said all infrastructure being developed for the international sporting event would be “green” by nature and therefore Thyagraj Stadium too would be give a green look through the colour of its chairs.

During the visit, Ms. Dikshit inspected the flooring area, air-conditioning process, athletic track area, visitors’ gallery and place earmarked for escalators and lifts. Directing that all facilities for practice by athletes be provided inside the stadium, the Chief Minister also asked the PWD to provide clean public conveniences.
Installation of lift and escalators would be completed soon after completion of civil works. It would take two months to complete all remaining works. The synthetic athletic track would conform to international standards and the stadium’s tiles stadium would be fireproof.
The stadium would have parking space for 450 vehicles at surface level and would have ramps, lifts and escalators to facilitate the movement of people. The three-storey stadium would also have five tennis courts.

Ms. Dikshit directed that steps should be taken to ensure that the cafeteria at the stadium is well managed. She said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been told to upgrade roads leading up to the stadium.
