People from north-eastern States today staged a demonstration here demanding stern action from authorities against those involved in gang rape of a BPO employee from Mizoram and steps to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
Addressing the protesters, Rajya Sabha MP Lalzhming Liana from Mizoram alleged that the administration had “failed to curb such cases for years” and no effective measures were taken when a similar incident took place in 2005 in Dhaula Kuan.
“No longer we will remain silent. We want justice. We want prompt action to ensure that the culprits are arrested, convicted and given worst possible punishment. We don’t want them to roam around like animals,” said Lalbiakhlui of Delhi Mizo Students’ Association.

Association Vice President K L Biakchungnunga said that every year a lot of students from northeast come to Delhi and most of them are students.
“The government should take necessary steps to make capital safe for people of every community,” he said.
The students association along with Mizo Welfare Associations and Mizo Christian Fellowship, Delhi will be jointly submitting a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this regard.

“We are submitting a memorandum to the honourable Prime Minister, condemning such heinous crimes against women, urging the government to take necessary measures to make Delhi and India a safer place to live for everyone especially for women,” Loksabha MP from Mizoram C L Ruala said.
“When a Naga girl was murdered last year, the police said they would provide a special help line number for the northeast people but this has never happened,” he added.
The 30-year-old BPO employee was walking towards her home in Moti Village in south Delhi on November 23 early morning along with one of her colleagues when five men forced her into a vehicle and took turns to rape her.
Police released sketches of two suspects but were yet to arrest anyone in connection with the incident.
