‘Play Holi and not Hooliganism’, appealed Delhi Police to citizens ahead of the festival of colours on Monday.
Greeting Delhiites on the occasion, city police commissioner Y.S. Dadwal said the festival should be celebrated in all its spirit but it should infringe on the rights of others. “Our appeal to people is to play Holi and not Hooliganism. Play safe and happy Holi. Respect the sensitivity of others who do not want to play Holi,” the commissioner said.
He also requested revellers not to throw water balloons at people.

“Some people may not like throwing colours or water balloons at them. Respect their sensitivity. Let us not make Holi unhappy for them on this joyous occasion,” Mr. Dadwal added.
He warned of strict action against those indulging in hooliganism in the name of Holi, saying “We have no place for hooliganism. Those creating trouble during the festival will be dealt with strictly.”
Mr. Dadwal also told people to not violate traffic regulations during the festival.

“We have noticed that there are instances of traffic violations on the day of Holi. Last year, over 10,000 people were prosecuted for various offences like drunken driving, over-speeding and dangerous driving,” he said.
