The MCD has been directed to put information on condition of roads as well as their upkeep and maintenance on its website before July 15.
The Central Information Commission, in its order, said that since the roads are used by a large number of citizens, it would be beneficial for them to know the details of regular maintenance.
The case relates to an RTI application filed by a resident of Mall Road area Kapil Chawla who wanted to know from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi whether it is fulfilling obligations under section four of the transparency law which mandates every public authority to make proactive disclosure about its working.

Not getting satisfactory information from the MCD, Mr. Chawla approached the Central Information Commission with his plea seeking that information about the condition of roads be put on the MCD website.
“Although basic information under section 4(1)(b) of the RTI Act is available on the website of the respondent public authority (MCD), the more specific request of the complainant (Mr. Chawla) is worth considering, as a large number of citizens utilise the public roads and its would be beneficial for them to know details regarding their regular maintenance,” Information Commissioner Shailesh Gandhi said.
Mr. Gandhi said, “the Commission under the powers vested in it by virtue of section 19(8)(a) of the RTI Act, hereby directs the PIO to place the information relating to maintenance and upkeep of roads...on the website of the department.”

He said compliance report about the action should be provided to the transparency panel before July 15 along with the link to the website where it has been uploaded.
