Swaraj Abhiyan has claimed that a liquor vend was “closed” on Sunday following a campaign in Old Delhi’s Matia Mahal Assembly constituency.

The forum, led by expelled AAP leaders Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan, has been holding ‘Jan Sunwayi’ (public hearings) on “proliferation” of liquor vends across the city.

“We have organised a ‘Jan Sunwayi’ near Ajmeri Gate in Matia Mahal constituency on Sunday. During the hearing, it came to notice that people of the area were facing problems due to a liquor vend,” the forum said in a press statement.

It claimed that the AAP government has not taken any action in this issue and demanded roll back of all 399 new liquor vends as well as cancellation of older licences wherever local population is opposed to it. “Swaraj Abhiyan starts second phase of ‘Sharab Nahi, Swaraj Chahiye’ campaign on Sunday – ‘Halla Bol’, will choose a new site every day to close the liquor vends,” it said. Residents will take the responsibility of closing down liquor vends in their areas “after the incompetence of the government has come to light”, it said.

During the campaign, Mr. Bhushan claimed that the “government had clearly got into the money-making business”.
