Now, Violet Line falls prey to power fault

: Services on the Delhi Metro’s Violet Line were hit on Tuesday due to a disruption in power supply.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said operations were affected between 8.11 a.m. and 9.42 a.m. Four round trips and one partial trip between ITO and Escorts Mujesar were cancelled, and two round trips were delayed during this period.

“Intermittent power supply failure from the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd. and Delhi Transco Ltd. to DMRC’s sub-stations at Faridabad, Sarita Vihar and Park Street led to tripping of Over Head Electrification,” a statement released by DMRC read.

Crowded trains

Meghna Sood, a commuter, said she had to wait for around 10 minutes at the Mandi House station for a train.

“I have never had to wait beyond five minutes here to get a train and it is generally not very crowded either. But on Tuesday, the train was extremely crowded. Though there were some announcements being made because of the chaos, no one could hear anything clearly,” Ms. Sood said.

DMRC fixing glitches

Sharat Sharma, Director (Operations), DMRC, said they were trying to fix the glitches.

“In case power supply is affected in one sub-station, we compensate it by taking supply from the closest sub-station. But in this case, the supply on all three sub-stations was affected,” said Mr. Sharma.

He said that on Tuesday, the maximum waiting time was 13 minutes.

“Our attempt is to quickly bounce back from these snags,” he added.

This was the fourth time in two weeks that Metro trains fell prey to delays.

On Monday, services on the Yellow Line were hit from around 12 p.m. to 12.40 p.m. due to power failure.

The Blue Line connecting Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida City Centre and Vaishali is often affected by snags related to signalling problems.
