Navy staff dies of swine flu

A 39-year-old man serving in INS Parundu naval air station in Uchipuli in Ramanathapuram district reportedly died of H1N1 infection (swine flu) at Government Rajaji Hospital here early on Thursday.

Confirming the cause of death to be H1N1 infection, an official at the hospital said that the navy person, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, was referred to the GRH three days back . Tests conducted at the hospital confirmed that he was affected by swine flu. He was treated in isolation at a special ward. Hospital sources said that the person died of multi-organ failure triggered by H1N1.

According to hospital authorities, the post-mortem was performed on Thursday, and officials from INS Parundu were planning to airlift the body to his native place on Friday. Officials from INS Parundu, however, could not be contacted.
