With five new services being added to the Project Jeevan programme under the Department of Information Technology of Delhi Government, the number of services that would be offered through each of the 300 centres working under it has gone up to 73.

Speaking at a function organised at Delhi Secretariat over the weekend to celebrate the completion of the first year of Project Jeevan, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the Capital city was all set to become the number one city in e-governance in the country.

Ms. Dikshit suggested that more and more such centres should be opened and informed that post offices are being approached to facilitate the setting up of more Jeevan centres. ``This will automatically increase the number of stations from 300 to 600 at one go,’’ she said.

Five new services that have been added to the 68 existing ones include payment of bill of piped gas connections taken from Indraprastha Gas Limited, payment in respect of Employees’ Provident Fund, matters relating to Drug Controller Office, and the Bed and Breakfast Scheme.

At the function, it was recalled that the Project Jeevan centres have been set up to provide citizen-centric services through Jeevan portal on the concept of one-stop shop. The citizens can approach any Jeevan centre and avail of any of the 73 services. What’s more, the mode of payment can be cash, cheque, debit card or credit card. The centres remain open on all days, except three national holidays, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Chief Minister said the general public has benefited immensely with the opening of the Jeevan centres as these have come up in colonies and easily accessible areas. Noting that such centres are also a boon for senior citizens as they can now make all their payments and carrying out all their transactions under one roof, she said these centres have been helping the citizens save time, money and fuel.

While most of the services are being offered free, on some nominal charges are being levied which again are much lower than the market rates. This has been achieved through Government intervention as it has fixed the services rates for various services. With these centres also issuing the receipts instantly upon the payment, consumers are not made to do several rounds for a single transaction.
