The Delhi Metro recorded its highest-ever ridership on Wednesday with more than 13 lakh people travelling by it throughout the day.
According to Delhi Metro officials, the recorded ridership figures of 13,60,017 on Wednesday, surpassed the earlier record set on August 23 when 13,12,030 people used the metro for travelling.
“On Wednesday, Line 3 (Dwarka Sector 9 to Noida City Centre) recorded the maximum ridership of 4,29,077 followed by Line 1 (Rithala-Dilshad Garden) with 3,13,898 and Line 2 (Jehangirpuri-Central Secretariat) at 3,12,478,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

DMRC officials said the total ridership figure of the metro has been consistently rising and has crossed the 11-lakh mark several times in the last few months, but this week the ridership crossed the 13-lakh mark twice.
At present, over a hundred train sets are in operation on the five lines of the Delhi Metro with a new train being added to the system every 10 to 15 days.
“Delhi Metro trains are today traversing over 40,000 km a day, making over 2,000 trips on the five operational lines covering 125 km,” the spokesperson said.

The rise in ridership on Wednesday was also attributed to water-logging on the roads and the monsoon rain. Heavy vehicular traffic on the roads and jams at several stretches compelled people to opt for the metro.
