Mehr was quizzed in March in Sunanda case

Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar was questioned in connection with the alleged murder of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor, this March, police said.

Joint Commissioner of Police (South Eastern Range) R.P. Upadhyay confirmed that Ms. Tarar, with whom Sunanda had a spat on Twitter days before her death, had been questioned earlier this year.

“We had asked her to join the investigations. When she arrived in India this March, Ms. Tarar contacted the police and conveyed to us that she was ready to present herself for questioning, The questioning session followed,” said Mr. Upadhyay.

While he did not divulge on what questions were asked or how Ms. Tarar responded to those, Mr. Upadhyay said “nothing substantial pertaining to the case had come out” from her replies.

Sunanda was found dead under mysterious circumstances on January 17, 2014, in a hotel.

Sources said members of the Special Investigating Team asked Ms. Tarar about the allegations made by Sunanda prior to her death that the journalist was romantically involved with Mr. Tharoor. She was learnt to have rebutted these claims.
