L-G, ACB chief may be questioned

June 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:42 pm IST - New Delhi:

Adding to the tussle between the Aam Aadmi Party government and the Lieutenant-Governor, Rakhi Birla, who is Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly and the chairperson of the Petitions Committee, said Najeeb Jung and the Anti-Corruption Branch chief M. K. Meena would be summoned for “questioning” in connection with five alleged scams during Sheila Dikshit’s term as Chief Minister.

‘Why was no action taken’

Rakhi Birla has claimed that the panel has the power to summon the L-G, who will be asked why action was not initiated on the five FIRs registered during the AAP government’s 49-day rule.

Ms. Birla said the police officials probing these cases would also be summoned by the nine-member committee, which is composed entirely of AAP MLAs.

“At a meeting of the Petitions Committee, we have decided to summon the L-G, M.K. Meena and investigating officers for questioning. We will also seek legal opinion from the Standing Counsel to proceed in the matter,” Ms. Birla told reporters.

She said the issue was serious as two former Union Ministers and a prominent industrialist were also involved in the cases. She went on to allege that the L-G and the ACB had adopted an “indifferent attitude” in getting the cases probed.
