Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday said her government was seriously considering increasing the minimum wages of the Delhi Home Guards and Civil Defence personnel.
Speaking at its 64th Raising Day at Raja Garden Parade Ground here, Ms. Dikshit also lauded the important role played by Home Guards during the Commonwealth Games in the city. She appealed to them to play a more constructive role in development of the city.
Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta, Principal Secretary (Home) G. S. Patnaik and Home Guards & Civil Defence Director-General A. S. Khan were also present on the occasion.

Ms. Dikshit said the Home Guards personnel on many occasions work under a lot of strain and in adverse circumstances and it was necessary that they were suitably trained and well equipped to deal with all demanding situations. “They could definitely play a more proactive role in other community-related developmental works in the Capital,” she added.
Mr. Khan said several training programmes such as community oriented policing service, traffic management and communication and disaster management related training programmes were being conducted at its Central Training Institute.
Ms. Dikshit distributed President's Medal to the brave Home Guards. Girls of Civil Defence also displayed various self-defence techniques.
