With the Commonwealth Games only some months away, Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia has inspected various health clinics being set up for athletes and listed out the changes that need to be undertaken to ensure that Delhi adheres to the international standards set for holding these Games.
“We have been inspecting the progress of the work, especially the setting up of health clinics and looking into the various nuances including size of doors, easy movement for athletes needing medical attention and quick accessibility. These health clinics will be self-sustaining and have amenities including ice-making machines and will be run by trained staff who are being taught to respond quickly to emergencies,’’ said Prof. Walia.
She said tenders have been floated for ambulances that will be used for the Games.

``The ambulances will be in by the next three weeks and the Health Department will also bring in more ambulances to support other health facilities that have been set up. We have also started the training of driver for these ambulances and the other health staff who will be part of the Games team. The training for paramedics, physiotherapy who are brought in from Amritsar and masseurs from Kerala, have also started. Our teams have been visiting these groups to ensure that their orientation is started well in time to ensure that the athletes get the best support,’’ added Prof. Walia.
