The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) has asked the Delhi Government to approve and release guidelines for nursery admission to put an end to speculation and confusion about admission criteria.
Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports on the issue, the DCPCR has written to the Principal Secretary (Education) of the Delhi Government, saying that it was high time that the guidelines were issued.
The notice also reminded the Directorate of the consultation on the guidelines held at the DCPCR office on June 3, which included representatives from the Directorate of Education, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, New Delhi Municipal Council and Delhi Cantonment Board.

Those at the consultation had agreed that as per the provisions contained in the Right to Education Act, 2009, neighbourhood should be the sole criterion for consideration of admission of children in nursery and all other factors under the point system should be scrapped. The representatives had also recommended that no screening test should be conducted for nursery admissions and the charging capitation fees for the same should attract strict action against the defaulting schools.
