January 05, 2017 12:41 am | Updated 12:41 am IST - New Delhi:

A group of eunuchs in east Delhi helped the police arrest a 20-year-old man who had allegedly kidnapped a child from Paharganj on Monday.

The police also rescued the two-and-a-half-year-old girl child from the residence of the alleged kidnapper’s aunt.

The accused, Rakesh alias Ichcha, told the police that he had kidnapped the child because he liked her. The police, however, said they need to investigate further.

The girl lives with her parents, Sonu and Rukhsana, in Dariba Pan area of Paharganj. They were regularly visited by Rakesh, who is said to be a ‘

behrupia ’.

Offered chocolates

On one such visit on Monday, Rakesh took the girl with him on the pretext of buying her chocolates. Her parents launched a search for her after she did not return for a while. Ultimately, they approached the police who lodged a kidnapping case.

“Though Rakesh was a regular at the complainant’s home, the family never asked for his address or number,” said Mandeep Singh Randhawa, DCP (Central).

The police, however, managed to get a photograph of the accused and learnt that he had been seen with eunuchs in the area. Once the police were sure that Rakesh lived in east Delhi’s Trilokpuri, they contacted eunuchs there. From here, they confirmed the address of Rakesh’s aunt. A raid at this address led to Rakesh’s arrest and the child being rescued.
