EOW told to file ATR on complaint against CM

A city court on Monday directed the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police to file an Action Taken Report (ATR) on a complaint against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his brother-in-law and a government official by a no-profit organisation alleging corruption charges.

Metropolitan Magistrate Abhilash Malhotra passed the direction when he was was informed by the Delhi Police that the matter was now being probed by the EOW. Earlier, the case was with the I.P. Estate police in central Delhi.

‘File ATR by February 9’

The court asked the DCP, the EOW, to file the ATR by February 9.

In the complaint, founder of the Road Anti-Corruption Organisation Rahul Sharma alleged irregularities in the award of contacts for construction of roads and sewer lines by the Chief Minister; his brother-in-law Surender Kumar Bansal, proprietor of Messrs Renu Construction; and P.K. Kathuria, then PWD Executive Engineer posted in north Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh.

Mr. Sharma has sought lodging of a case against them for cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy.

The allegations

“From the records retrieved and other sources, it has come out that Mr. Bansal operates Messrs Renu Construction Company and various other dummy companies in order to obtain contracts by way of fraud in criminal connivance with government servants posted at the PWD,” the complaint alleged.

“Mr. Bansal in 2015-16 had obtained a contract for certain works, which were never completed, whereas, shockingly, all the payments were cleared under the pressure of Mr. Kejriwal,” the complaint further alleged.
