Dengue scare in Jamia Nagar

August 13, 2010 08:17 pm | Updated 08:17 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Residents of Jamia Nagar here have written to Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and State Health Minister Kiran Walia asking them to initiate immediate action to contain the outbreak of dengue in the area.

All-India Milli Council general secretary Mohd. Manzoor Alam in his letter noted that while the disease has claimed more than 10 lives in the city and affected 166 this season, the State Government has not been able to contain and minimise the outbreak.

“Intermittent rains leave small puddles of water everywhere creating new breeding grounds for disease-carrying mosquitoes. Despite all the misery, we have yet to see municipal workers in the area with fogging machines. The residents of Jamia Nagar are suffering because of the lax attitude of the State health department,” the letter noted.

Mr. Alam has complained that the area was also getting cases of malaria that could have been prevented by timely spraying or fogging.
