The Delhi Government on Wednesday joined hands with Apollo Hospital to launch a campaign against heart diseases. Inaugurated by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, the campaign titled “Billion Hearts Beating” aims at creating awareness and initiating positive action for tackling the problem of heart diseases.

Under this multi-media national campaign, people would be exhorted to take a pledge and share it with their friends.

Ms. Dikshit said the campaign would become an integral part of the Delhi Government's website. It will provide simple tips to people to effectively manage risk factors related to heart diseases.

Stressing the importance of prevention before cure, the Health Minister assured that her department would work towards ensuring the success of the campaign.

Dr. Reddy said Indians were more prone to heart diseases than most other nationalities. “They are four times more likely to have heart attack than their western counterparts,'' he said, adding that risk of heart disease can be significantly reduced through simple lifestyle modifications.
