Delhi felicitates Sushil Kumar

Ever since wrestler Sushil Kumar won the silver medal at the London Olympics on August 12, the three Municipal Corporations of North, South and East Delhi have been planning a grand felicitation to honour their pehelwan. Earlier the civic bodies were fighting over who will throw a civic reception for him, but on Monday it finally at a joint function organised by the three Corporations at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium.

As an appreciation for bringing honour to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi at the world level, the wrestler, who completed his primary education in an MCD school, was awarded a cheque of Rs.51 lakh and one residential property in his name was deemed exempted from payment of property tax for life.

Mr. Sushil Kumar thanked the Corporations and advised students to always respect their parents, teachers and elders. He also encouraged them to take part in games with due interest as they could become their career. Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Vijender Gupta called the wrestler “Lion of Delhi” and “Prince of Delhi” and said that he hoped the future generations would be inspired by him and take the nation to greater heights.
