Published - October 08, 2009 04:50 pm IST - New Delhi:

To keep prices of onions under check in the metropolis, the Delhi government today banned its sale to areas outside the city from the wholesale market here.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting attended by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Food and Civil Supply Minister Raj Kumar Chouhan.

“The Government has decided not allow flow of onions from the wholesale markets of the city,” a senior official said after the meeting. Retail prices of onion jumped from Rs. 15 to Rs. 23 per kg in the last couple of days.
