An Uber taxi driver was shot dead allegedly by two boys in his cab, following an argument between them in West Delhi’s Mundka area on Wednesday evening.

The suspects dumped the victim’s body in an agricultural field before driving his Swift Dzire car to Najafgarh where they abandoned it after removing the number plates.

Dependra Pathak, Joint CP (South-Western Range), said that the victim Kuldeep Thakur was driving for Ola Cabs until March 11, but the taxi had been booked through the Uber app when the incident took place on Wednesday.

The cab had been booked from Mundka for Hiran Kudna in West Delhi itself on Wednesday evening. It was mid-way when an argument ensued between the boys and the driver over the names of their native places.

According to the officer, the boys mocked the name of Thakur’s native place, Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. Thakur responded by saying that Mundka did not sound too pleasing to the ears either.

Secretly armed with a revolver until then, the boys allegedly shot Thakur in his head. To ensure he was dead, they shot him again before dumping his body and abandoning the car.

Police said they were helped by Ola in identifying the victim and by Uber in tracking down who had hired the cab. That led them to the suspects who have allegedly confessed to the murder.
