Delhi Metro modifies Mandi House rotary

September 01, 2014 09:21 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:13 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will hand over the modified Mandi House rotary to the New Delhi Municipal Council later this month, nearly three years after it took it over to facilitate the construction work of the Mandi House metro station.

Traffic flow

The modified rotary that has smoothened traffic flow around it was taken over in October, 2011, to facilitate construction work at the newly-opened Mandi House metro station and related tunnelling work on the line which will connect Central Secretariat with Kashmere Gate.

While earlier the rotary had a diameter of 78 metres with varying carriage ways of 12 to 16 metres around it, it has now been widened to 81 metres and shifted south towards Copernicus Marg.

This is so the carriage way of 16.5 metres can be maintained all around it, said a DMRC spokesperson.

The shifting of rotary and improving the road alignment has improved the road geometry resulting in fast movement of the vehicles.

Beautified

Further, the inner circle of the rotary has been beautified with landscaping in consultation with the NDMC’s horticulture department and has been divided into four parts with pathways.

A variety of plants and trees including Plumeria Alba and Budha bali (Australian Bottle Plant), flowering trees like Tabebvia Rosea and Spathodea Companulata (Rugtoora) has been planted to increase the green cover.
