Data base of all scrap dealers to be prepared

April 17, 2010 01:19 pm | Updated 01:19 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Chief Secretary has sought a comprehensive report from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee and the Delhi Police on the radiation leak issue.

At a meeting with senior officers of various departments on Friday, Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta is learnt to have demanded that the entire issue of disposal of waste in Delhi be revisited and a data base be created of all the scrap dealers in the city.

While there are about 250 big scrap dealers in Delhi, only about 50 to 60 of them are registered. With most of them operating without any registration, little is known at present about where they source the scrap from and how they dispose it of. In view of the recent radiation leak episode, the Delhi Government now wants to have all the scrap dealers under its scanner.
